Star HA High Fluoro Wax (60g)

When you expect abrasive snow or extra suction from wet conditions you want Star’s HA wax with high fluorocarbon content. All the HA waxes work well by themselves, but even better as a base layer with a 100% pure fluorocarbon finish coat to improve glide and longevity whether the conditions are wet, or old, cold and abrasive man-made or groomed snow, even when treated with salt. The real beauty, however, is how well they respond to changing conditions over a wide temperature range.

For best results be sure to iron them in at the suggested melting temperature, then finish off with a good brushing. 60 gram package size.

  • HA2: 0°C to -4°C (32°F to 25°F)
  • HA4: -2°C to -6°C (28°F to 21°F)
  • HA6: -4°C to -12°C (25°F to 10.4°F)
  • HA8: -8°C to -20°C (17.6°F to -4°F)

Star VA Very High Fluoro Wax

Demanding skiers, professional and amateur, nordic or alpine, will gravitate to the VA line Star waxes with the highest content of fluorocarbon. The revolutionary technology behind the VA line combines fluoro-alkanes and fluoro-polymers in the highest concentrations ever used. The net result is a wax that improves glide in the conditions that are most abrasive – dirty snow, artificial snow, humid and melting snow – and maintains it for longer.

For best results apply the wax at the recommended iron temperature given on each package and finish with a good brushing.

  • VA2: 0°C to -4°C (32°F to 25°F)
  • VA4: -2°C to -6°C (28°F to 21°F)

Swix HF Wax

HF stands for High Fluorocarbon. There are 5 main waxes in this category, which are fluorinated hydrocarbon blends having a high percentage of a low-melt point fluorocarbon additive – a result of Cera F technology. The waxes are unique because they provide fast acceleration, work in a wide range of temperatures, and are durable and dirt resistant. HF waxes are excellent when used alone, but ideal when used in combination with Cera F as an over layer.

  • HF6: -6ºC to -12ºC (21ºF to 10ºF).
At this temperature point the base blend to which the fluorocarbon is added also contains a combination of hard synthetic paraffins which have proven very effective at colder temperatures and abrasive man-made snow. Recommended final Cera F powder layer: FC7. Recommended iron temperature setting of 140ºC.
  • HF7: -2ºC to -8ºC (28ºF to 18ºF).
This popular formulation requested by World Cup technicians can be used alone or mixed with other waxes. Its consistency makes it easy to iron and scrape. Recommended final Cera F powder layer: FC7. Recommended iron temperature setting of 135ºC.
  • HF8: +1ºC to -4ºC (34ºF to 25ºF).
This wax falls into in a common wintertime temperature and therefore is used often. The combination of HF8 and FC78/FC8X Cera F powder as the final layer has become a highly successful racing standard. Recommended iron temperature setting of 120ºC.
  • HF10: +10ºC to 0ºC (50ºF to 32ºF).
For very wet conditions. Falling wet snow, rain, and a water saturated snow surface. At these temperatures dirt in the snow is often concentrated at the surface, therefore HF10 is best used with Cera F FC10 powder as an overlayer. HF10 is often mixed with HF8. Recommended iron temperature setting of 110ºC.

Swix Cera F Powder Wax

Cera F powders are special waxes that are applied on top of a base wax using one pass with the iron, taking no more the 4 or 5 seconds to travel the length of the ski. Application can also be done with a Roto-Fleece, or by hand corking.

Recommended iron setting of 160°C (320°F). Available in 30 gram packages.

  • FC7: -2°C to -30°C (28ºF to -22ºF)
The Cera F for cold conditions. Very wide range in colder and dryer conditions, new or old snow. Frequently used when the snow is icy, or man-made snow such as during top level races and half-pipe competitions. The base waxes for FC7 are generally HF6, HF6BW or LF6, HF7, HF7BW or LF7.
Note: FC7 should be ironed, brushed back to powder form, and ironed again.
  • FC8X: -4°C to +4°C (40°F to 25°F)
The most popular Cera F powder covers the important range above and below the freezing point in normal winter conditions, new or old snow. The base waxes for FC8X are HF8, HF8BW or LF8.
  • FC10X: 0°C to +20°C (32°F to 68°F)
This powder is designed for very wet conditions. Good during thawing conditions, late season when there is strong sun effect, and wet falling snow at 0°C (32°F). The base waxes for FC10X are HF10, HF10BW or LF10.
